We at Sugarway like a nice ale, drunk ever so responsibly. So when our good friend, and Beer Sommelier of the year, Jane Peyton knocked on our door with a beer and an idea, we put down our green tea and had a listen. This ended up with us agreeing to do quick logo and website design, in fact we turned it all around in about 4 hours!
Rather than try and explain why I’ll let Jane take over;
Hello Beer Lovers – welcome to the campaign for Britain’s national beer day to be held annually on June 15th starting in 2015.
We hope you will participate in activities to celebrate Beer Day Britain. There is much to be proud of with UK’s amazing beer and pubs, not least that more styles of beer invented in Britain are now brewed around the world than those of any other brewing nation. These include Pale Ale, India Pale Ale, Mild, Brown Ale, Stout, Porter, Imperial Russian Stout, and Barley Wine.
June 15th is also the date that Magna Carta was sealed in 1215. Article 35 of the charter stated:
‘Let there be throughout our kingdom a single measure for wine and a single measure for ale and a single measure for corn, namely “the London quarter”‘
Ale was so important in England that it was mentioned in one of the most significant legal documents in history. What a great reason to go to the pub, visit a brewery, take a ride on the ale rail, brew a celebration ale, or host a beery BBQ on June 15th and rejoice with Britain’s national drink!
Beer Day Britain is a grass roots project ‘for the love of beer’ by Jane Peyton (Britain’s Beer Sommelier of the Year), Sophie de Ronde (head brewer at Brentwood Brewery), and Sara Barton (founder of and head brewer of Brewsters’ Brewing Company, and former British Brewer of the Year). Britain’s major beer organisations support the idea but this is a voluntary initiative by Jane, Sophie and Sara.
Will you join us for the love of beer and make Beer Day Britain the world’s best national beer day? You can also download the Beer Day Britain logo and artwork for a Beer Day Britain beer mat to use as you want. And please Tweet, Tweet, Tweet to build support and anticipation! The Twitter address is @BeerDayBritain and the hashtag is #BDB
Thank you and bottoms up!
